Seven Thirty Three

The back garden of my grandparents' house. I once grew things here, mowed the grass, sat reading on many warm evenings.

Lightning bugs at dusk: I didn't take any pictures of them, but I was thrilled at seeing them for the first time in probably well over a decade.

I think I almost forgot about their existence.

An old man next door is dreaming over a sheen that sits
in a cherry tree in his back yard.
The clocks say I must go--I stay here sitting on the
back porch drinking white thoughts you rain down.

Those could pass for photos of my grandparents' home as well.

good grief. this post made me start boo hooing. i am so fucked.

on a happier note, or a used to be happier note, the first firefly of the season was an event mike and i shared each spring. every evening when the time was just right, we'd go sit on the bench under the birch tree in the front garden. if it was warm enough, tiny lights would begin to lift from the flower beds. within a few minutes, the entire garden would be awash in soft blinking lights. i love them!

i have given over my life to george bush and his band of war criminals. feels like swimming against a riptide to fight my way back to where i used to be. i prayed on my knees this morning for the first time in ages. maybe that's a start.

the photos are fantastic. your words are perfect.
