Kusala, forgive me for sounding crass for asking: Do you know all those languages or are you just a Babelfish addict? But I'm sure Anni-Frid appreciates the sentiment.

ldb: Well, the short answer is that I've been known to use Babelfish once or twice. I'm also semi-literate in a few foreign languages while not being quite "fluent" in any. The two I approach reasonable knowledge of are German and, to a lesser degree, Swedish. I can get by and read French passably. Italian is barely "survival" level, and Spanish a bare step up from that.

That sounds somewhat similar to me, though I have zero Swedish or Italian. I studied German for eons and still think in German many times, though it is a decidedly impractical choice for work related travel that takes me to Asia, Africa and Latin America. However, I've encountered German speakers in the oddest places such as Ghana and Oaxaca. My French and Spanish have come more from travels than formal studies. Thus I was seen as being a tad weird in Barcelona as a gringo speaking with a Mesoamerican/Andean accent throwing in an occasional Castillion lisp.
I dunno about drums, but I have met my destiny in quite a sim'lar way.
